Our staff women discussed a book for missionary women this morning called Screams in the Desert (William Carey Library, http://www.missionsbooks.org/). Chapter 18 has a neat (abbreviated) little story about a big God:
We were riding in one of the thousands of taxis in the capital of our new host country. My youngest daughter had just gotten a brand new pair of shoes from her grandma. When we arrived, I paid the driver and went on my way carrying Katie when I noticed that one of the new shoes had apparently fallen off her foot in the taxi. I ran outside, but I was too late to catch him.
I was so sad. I thought about praying for it but I realized that with all of the taxis in the city, it would be impossible for that shoe to find its way back to us, so I dismissed the idea and accepted the inevitable loss. The minor loss was a major disappointment.
Later that day, our teammate was riding in a taxi talking to the driver in Arabic which impressed him. He mentioned another American passenger earlier that morning who also spoke Arabic and held up a little shoe she left behind. Mark recognized it and directed the driver to my doorstep. As he held forth the little treasure, I was speechless. All of a sudden, I became aware of the limitations I had put on God. He was showing me in His tender way that nothing is impossible for Him. Finding a tiny shoe in a city of 18,000,000 (that's 36,000,000 shoes!) was a simple thing for God. He merely arranged a few taxi rides.
May we trust the God who cares enough about the small things in our lives to stretch us to believe Him for the much bigger things!

Surprises
When you're expecting great things from God, you get some surprises! One of them has been that we now have over 60 signed up for the Perspectives Coordinator Workshop (PCW). We are excited for the potential of many classes continuing and new ones forming. Please pray for Sue, Sundee, and Lisa as they make plans for the training and that it will be enhanced by the interaction of so many. Is this a preview of the great things God has in store for us as we expect more and more? We think so. May it all be for God's great glory!
Global Day of Prayer
WayMakers (http://www.waymakers.org/) publishes a guide for a great global prayer movement each year. Here is the introduction to the booklet:
"Following a clear vision received in July 2000, a call to Christians across Africa and then across all the earth, to a day of repentance and prayer, a remarkable "wave" of united prayer has "rolled out" over Africa and the globe....On May 27, 2007 believers from 204 nations once again united from all over the globe. The echoes of desperate prayers for transformation sounded from stadiums, open fields, community centers, and private homes. These prayers have the power to transform our world and to fill the nations with the glory of God."
On May 11, Pentecost Sunday, we have an opportunity to join in. All the information can be found at http://www.globaldayofprayer.com/. Every gathering will pray the same prayer together, as in Acts 4:24--"they lifted their voices to God with one accord..." Find a gathering--or start one!
